Below are my recommendations for shows coming to Scotland in 2026. All of these shows piqued my interest or because I have seen and loved them before. I particularly love comedies and murder mysteries so that definitely skews my list. If you would like to see my recommendations for more dramatic productions please let me know in the comments.

This does not include Edinburgh Fringe or Christmas show recommendations. I will release separate recommendations for both of those later in the year.

This table includes limited details for each show. For further details please see below the table.

Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift
This show looks really fun. I love a cosy murder mystery and I liked the original series. Intrigue and mystery are abound in the idyllic village of Badger’s Drift as Emily Simpson is found dead.

These dates have no past. But this show is still touring the UK. Full details below this table.

Death on the Nile
Ken Ludwig previously directed the superb Murder on the Orient Express tour last year and I expect this will be equally spectacular. Another Agatha Christie Poirot play set on a luxury cruise as a newly married couple’s honeymoon is interrupted by a murder. https://deathonthenileplay.com/Aberdeen, His Majesty’s Theatre, 17-21 Feb 2026

PMOS: Come From Away

My review of the professional Come From Away production I saw in Glasgow: Come From Away – WW Reviews
I have seen Come From Away several times. Once on Broadway and last year at the Edinburgh Fringe with another local theatre group. It is one of the best musicals of the 21st century and everyone should experience this show at least once. Local theatre groups will often produce shows that aren’t available by a professional company and can be just as brilliant. I highly recommend this show. https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/pmos-presents-come-from-away/kings-theatre-glasgow/Glasgow, The King’s Theatre,

The High Life: The Musical
The original series of The High Life is available on BBC iPlayer and is fast paced and hilarious. With the original cast reuniting for this musical it should hopefully be just as fantastic as the series was. The High Life sees a pilot and flight attendants working for Air Scotia as they navigate the skies and their personal lives. https://www.nationaltheatrescotland.com/events/the-high-lifeDundee, Rep Theatre, 27 Mar-4 Apr

Glasgow, The King’s Theatre, 12-23 May

Legally Blonde: The Musical
The original MTV filming of Legally Blonde is available to watch and made this musical famous. This looks like a modern take on this show which I am really looking forward to seeing. Following Elle as she tries to become a lawyer to win back her ex-boyfriend. https://legallyblondeshow.com/Glasgow, The King’s Theatre, 7-11 Apr
Aberdeen, His Majesty’s Theatre, 23-27 Jun
Edinburgh, Edinburgh Playhouse, 29 Sept-3 Oct

Shine Productions: The Prince of Egypt: The Musical
The Prince of Egypt musical is not often staged as the professional production was cut short by the pandemic. It will be interesting to see what this local theatre group does with such originally technically tricky material. https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/shine-productions-presents-the-prince-of-egypt-the-musical/theatre-royal-glasgow/Glasgow, Theatre Royal, 8-11 Apr
Scottish Ballet: StarstruckScottish Ballet is presenting the revived ballet Starstruck that follows the romance between a ballerina and choreographer. Inspired by Gene Kelly’s work Scottish Ballet collaborated with Patricia Ward Kelly to bring this ballet to life. I personally adore the work of Gene Kelly and so I am excited to see this ballet. https://scottishballet.co.uk/whats-on/starstruck/Glasgow, Theatre Royal, 16-18 Apr

The Spy Who Came In From The Cold
The John le Carre novel is adapted into a play for the first time. A darker mystery than most others on this list. A British spy is looking to retire but agrees to one final mission. https://spyonstage.com/uktour/Edinburgh, Festival Theatre, 21-25 Apr
Glasgow, Theatre Royal, 26-30 May

The Choir of Man

My review of The Choir of Man west end production I saw in London: The Choir of Man – WW Reviews
The Choir of Man started life at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has since gone on to tour around the world, play on cruise ships and run in the West End. Now on it’s new UK tour it is a feel good show that never disappoints. It’s impossible to have a bad time at The Choir of Man. There is no traditional story but rather the show, set in a pub, has a male choir singing pop songs and asking you to join them if you feel comfortable. I’ll be curious to see how this small show translates to the bigger venues it is playing and how it adds a interval. Part of the original appeal of this show was the intimate nature of it – it felt like you were in a pub. However, with all the different venues and changes The Choir of Man has been through I don’t doubt the talent of the creative team to make this leap work perfectly. https://www.thechoirofmanukietour.com/Glasgow, The King’s Theatre, 28 Apr-2 May
Edinburgh, Festival Theatre, 1-5 Dec
Scottish Opera: The Marriage of FigaroOn Figaro and Susanna’s wedding day is disrupted by Figaro’s boss, The Count, who plans to seduce Susanna. This Mozart comedic opera is being sung in English and is one of the most popular operas performed. https://www.scottishopera.org.uk/shows/the-marriage-of-figaro/Glasgow, Theatre Royal, 9-22 May

The Hen Night – Play, Pie, Pint
Play, Pie, Pint is a lunchtime play accompanied by a pint (or soft drink) and a pie (or vegan pie). Each week there is a new play and The Hen Night is part of the spring season. It follows Coral’s hen night as it is crashed by her perfect cousin. https://playpiepint.com/whats-on/event/the-hen-night/Glasgow, Oran Mor, 8-13 Jun
Austentatious: An Improvised Jane Austen NovelI saw Austentatious at the Edinburgh Fringe last year and it was such a brilliantly executed improv story that it almost felt scripted. The structure of asking the audience for titles of forgotten Jane Austen novels and then proceeding to create roughly an hour of improv makes for an incredibly funny evening. I highly recommend this show. https://www.austentatiousimpro.com/tourGlasgow, The King’s Theatre, 27 Jun

Operation Mincemeat

My review of Operation Mincemeat, the west end production I saw in London: Operation Mincemeat – WW Reviews
Following the real story of the WWII operation, this musical manages to balance respecting the sacrifice of soldiers and the man whose body was used and looking at classism and the funnier sides of war. https://operationmincemeat.com/tour/uk/Aberdeen, His Majesty’s Theatre, 11-15 Aug
Edinburgh, The King’s Theatre, 2-7 Nov

The Steamie
I have wanted to see this Scottish classic about women on Hogmanay in a traditional ‘steamie’ for years. I am excited to see a production of this comedy. https://rerrterr.com/events/?tribe-bar-date=2026-08-01Dundee, Rep Theatre, 27 Aug-12 Sept

Edinburgh, The King’s Theatre, 5-10 Oct
Dunfermline, The Alhambra Theatre, 29-31 Oct
Glasgow, The King’s Theatre, 2-14 Nov

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
The play follows Miss Brodie, a teacher, who each year selects girls who she plans to mould to her image and from them demands complete loyalty. This is a brilliant Scottish play that examines influence, ego and the manipulation of minds. A must see play which, in this production, looks stylish with noir theming. https://www.nationaltheatrescotland.com/events/the-prime-of-miss-jean-brodieEdinburgh, Lyceum Theatre, 2-18 Oct

W*nkernomicsW*nkernomics takes all the trials and tribulations of your worst week at work and turns them into a hilarious comedy meeting. With most of the audience coming straight from the office and heading directly into the W*nkernomics meeting, this duo intends to make fun of you and your blue sky thinking. Moving forward, you will never go into a deep dive the same way again. https://wankernomics.com/liveGlasgow, Pavilion Theatre, 3 Nov
Edinburgh, Usher Hall, 11 Nov
Billy Elliot: The Musical starts touring in 2026 but doesn’t come to Scotland until 2027 so I’m including it here.

Billy Elliot: The Musical
Billy Elliot set in the 1980s in a working class community of miners’ during the strike. The story follows Billy who shows an interest and proclivity for ballet. With an excellent score and some of the most amazing young dancers Billy Elliot is a musical I have desperate to see live. https://billyelliotthemusical.com/Edinburgh, Edinburgh Playhouse, 19 Jan-6 Feb
Some productions that aren’t coming to Scotland but are definitely worth checking out if in England this year.

The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals
Paul doesn’t like musicals so when an aliens turn the world into a musical it is Paul’s worst nightmare come to life. A really fun horror comedy musical. https://www.teamstarkid.com/tgwdlm-londonLondon, Apollo Theatre, 14-30 May
ThespiansThespians is a new musical by Mischief who created the Goes Wrong shows and TV series. In Ancient Greece one man accidentally invents acting and through this musical we discover the origins of theatre. Mischief shows are always hilarious and this one looks to be no different. https://www.mischiefcomedy.com/whats-on/thespians/(closest to Scotland touring city)
