Come Dine With Me the Musical follows the producer Mary, played by Daniele Coombe, cameraman Roy, played by Tom Bowen, and sound man Teddy, played by Harry Chandler, who are trying to film the 1000th episode of Come Dine With Me. If you don’t know the original reality show it pits four contestants against each other. They all must cook a three course meal for the other three contestants who then rank, out of ten, the meal they have received. The highest ranking contestant wins a cash prize.
I reviewed this show when it was at the Edinburgh Fringe and that review can be found here.
Upon seeing this show a second time I was again struck by the talent of the cast. The singing was beautiful but the songs were forgettable. Whilst music does not always need to be memorable to be good the songs in this musical were fine but not exceptional.
The show is not as funny as I had hoped and would be strengthened by more jokes but the musical had an incredibly strong cast and a funny concept which with further development could become a really interesting and funny show.
