The Wolves At The Door

The play centres around Daniel who is in debt to the energy company and trying to keep the lights and heating on for his young daughter. When Malc, a debt collector, and Sussanne, an engineer, show up to install a pre-payment meter.

The tale of the three little pigs was used to bookend the play and it felt a little too obvious for the audience. I would have been interested to see more of a backstory around Malc and his views on poverty as he states he was raised in poverty by his grandmother.

The best scenes of the play were when all three characters were onstage together as the actors played off one another very well and the script was funny and explorative. However, these were short sections which ended far too quickly.

I would be interested to see what playwright, Jack Hunter, does next as this piece was well researched with interesting characters but was perhaps too short to cover all the backstory that would have made this piece fantastic.
